The Definition of Water, Creative Visualization and Deep Listening

An evening of readings from the works of David Foster Wallace, practices in Creative Visualization and contemplation of songs of melancholy and hope. In conjunction with Karl Erickson's installation Be Almost Miraculous, guests Kathryn Andrews, Tom McKenzie, and Geoff Tuck explore themes of motivation, ego, suicide and belief.

Tom McKenzie and Geoff Tuck will read selections from the work of David Foster Wallace that consider the difficulty of living daily life, Kathryn Andrews will present meditations of Creative Visualization practice, and we will listen to songs by Spacemen 3, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Neil Young, and Junior Kimbrough.

Kathryn Andrews is a visual artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. She has recently exhibited work at Galerie Christian Nagel in Germany and is participating in an upcoming collaborative group exhibition called "Video Journeys" with Sister Gallery at Cottage Home in Chinatown. She also occasionally writes about art and runs a project space out of her home called "Apartment 2".

Tom McKenzie is a Los Angeles based writer whose works include plays, political essays, articles and blogs. Broadly, his writing addresses a range of subjects from foreign policy to contemporary culture. He is co-creator of the website artists-at-war.com and his work has appeared in the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest, RealTalkLA and Cakewalk Magazine. From 1995 to 2001, McKenzie co-founded and co-operated the Peninsula Pulse, Door County Wisconsin's community newspaper.
